Children

Our children

Getting to know me, getting to know you, getting to know God.

Our Sunday morning children's meeting is called Shine. This is for children from 3 years old to Grade 7. At Shine we try to create an environment that makes church a positive, fun experience – a place that children will definitely want to come back to.

We place a high value on building relationships – child to child, child to adult, and most importantly, with God. In all that we do, we try to be relevant to the children that we're working with, and show them a Father that is very relevant in their lives.

By the end of Grade 7 we want every child to know that they can trust God, that they need to make the wise choice, and that they need to treat others the way that they want to be treated.

For further information contact the children's pastor, Lynette Snyman. Alternatively, you can contact the office.

Our Team

Our team is made up of young and not so young men and women who love God and love children. Most teachers work with a partner, and teach for 3 weeks in a term.

What happens on a Sunday

Shine runs concurrently with the Family Service. As soon as the children arrive at church, they come to the Shine venue. Parents need to accompany younger children as all children up to Grade 3 have to be signed in for safety purposes. All children and adults involved at Shine wear a Shine badge with their name on. Visitors are required to register their children, and Shine badges will be provided.

Once children have their name badges and are signed in, they may play games. There are a variety of games to choose from, and all games are supervised by the teachers on duty. After worship, the three year olds (Tweenies) go off to class for their lesson. The rest of the children stay in the hall for the Big Group Time.

Tweenies

Three is a very special birthday at The Father’s House, because then your child may join Shine.

The Tweenies class caters for the three and four-year-old children. Because three and four year olds can only concentrate for three or four minutes, the lesson consists of lots of different activities, all exploring the same theme. We cover different Bible stories from the Old and New Testament. The lesson always ends with a time of prayer, where the children lay hands on each other and pray for one another.

Pre-School to Grade 7

We are currently using 252 Basics for our Pre-School to Grade 7 children. Stories from the Bible are used to teach different virtues – a new one every month. Memory verses and points to remember accompany the virtues.

Once the story has been introduced and lots of fun and laughter have been had, children go off to their different classes, depending on their age group. In class they discuss the story and virtue in more detail and do different activities, based on their age and ability.

Families are encouraged to reinforce what is covered at Shine by using the Parent Cue card, which is made available at the beginning of each month.
